STC Manitoba Forums

The Society for Technical Communication (STC) is an individual membership organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of technical communication. It is the largest organization of its type in the world. Its 18,000 members include technical writers and editors, content developers, documentation specialists, technical illustrators, instructional designers, academics, information architects, usability and human factors professionals, visual designers, website designers and developers, and translators—anyone whose work makes technical information available to those who need it.



Introducing our new executive committee

On May 6, 2008 at our annual general meeting we elected a new executive committee for the upcoming 2008-2009 term. The new executive committee consists of the following people:

  • President – Andrew Quarry <interim basis>
  • Vice-President – Margaret LeSage
  • Past-President – Brad Friesen
  • Program Chair – Lauren Bailey
  • Secretary – Holly Steele
  • Membership Chair – <vacant>
  • Public Relations Chair – Dorothy Davidson
  • Treasurer – Donald Nordman

The (uncertain) future of technical communication in Manitoba

Red River College has offered wannabe technical communicators the opportunity to earn either a certificate or a two-year diploma in technical communication. However, these programs are struggling for survival, and the membership in our chapter has remained somewhat static for several years. We need an injection of energy and new ideas.
